As the saying goes, “Fashion is not about the clothes you wear but how they make you feel”. Same goes with Fragrance, it’s not about how they scent but how they make people around you comfortable. What then can Fashion and Fragrance do when they make a perfect match?

Here is one thing most people don’t pay attention to, including myself, a fragrance of choice can affect your mood and can help you adapt to different situations and occasions. For instance, a spicy and warm scent can make you feel more cozy and relaxed while a fresh and citrusy scent can make you feel more energized and cheerful.

Lest we forget, your style and scent can make you stand out from the crowd and express your unique individuality. More reason why you should select your scent carefully.

HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR CLOTHING AND SCENT STYLE

We have established the fact that Fashion and Fragrance goes hand in hand and how then do we know the clothing style that when matched with our scent of choice can communicate information about our profession, culture, social status, values and preferences?

Here are the simple steps to follow:

1. Identify your style Icons: Think of people whose style you admire. He/she might be your favorite celebrity, friends you admire, family members or even strangers. Pay attention to what you like about their outfits, such as the colors, shapes, patterns, fabrics, accessories, and the overall vibe.

2. Define your style words: Based on your style icons and your own preferences, write down three words that describe how you want your clothes and your fragrances to make you feel. For example, you might choose words like elegant, classic, feminine, casual, professional, or even flirty. These words will help you narrow down your style and guide you when making choices.

3.Evaluate your current wardrobe and perfume shelve: Take a look at the clothes you already have likewise your fragrance collections. Do they fit your style words? Do they make you feel good? Do they reflect your personality? Keep the items that match your style and get rid of the ones that doesn’t fit in.

4.Shop for your style essentials: Once you have a clear idea of your style, you can start building your wardrobe with the pieces that you need and the fragrance you love.

5.Express your style with confidence: The most important thing about your clothing and fragrance style is that it makes you feel happy and comfortable. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but also don’t let trends or opinions dictate your choices. Be yourself and wear what you love. Remember that your style and scent is a way of showing the world who you are and what you stand for.

CHOOSING A PERFUME THAT FITS YOUR CLOTHING STYLE

Even after getting a “three-bold” words for my clothing style, I found it difficult finding the right perfume that will suit my style. I discovered later on some tips that made the search easier. Here are some tips that helped me.

First, the identification of your clothing style is crucial as stated earlier. Do you prefer it classic, elegant, casual, sporty, feminine, or exotic? Or maybe you like to mix and match different styles depending on the occasion? Describing it in three bold words will help you match it up with the perfect perfume.

Next, you need to consider the base notes of your choice of perfume. These are the most lasting and dominant scents that define the character of that perfume. Particularly, there are four main categories of base notes, which are floral, oriental, woody, and fresh. Each category has its own subcategories and variations, but generally, they can be associated with different clothing styles.

For example, floral base notes are usually suitable for feminine and romantic styles, as they evoke a sense of delicacy and sweetness. Some examples of floral perfumes are Bloom by Gucci, Gabrielle Essence by Chanel and Granada by Oscar de la Renta.

Oriental base notes are ideal for exotic, flirty and sexy styles, as they create a sensual and arousing atmosphere. Some examples of oriental perfumes are Night by Judith Leiber, Bright Crystal Absolu by Versace, and Shalimar by Guerlain.

Woody base notes are perfect for elegant, professional and classic styles, as they convey a sense of sophistication and refinement. Some examples of woody perfumes are Omnia Crystalline EDT by Bvlgari, Versense by Versace, and Delicate Essence by David Yurman.

Fresh base notes are great for casual and sporty styles, as they reflect a sense of freshness, cheerfulness and energy. Some examples of fresh perfumes are Happy by Clinique, Cheap and Chic Hippy Fizz by Moschino, and Peace, Love & Juicy Couture.

Also, there is need for you to test the perfume on your skin and see how it reacts with your body systems. The same perfume can smell different on different people, depending on their skin type, diet, hormones, and other factors. Therefore, it is important to try the perfume before buying it and see how it evolves throughout the day. The key note here is, you should be comfortable with whatever collection you are going with.

On a final note, choose a sample perfume that makes you happy and confident. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to making a choice of perfume, as long as you like it and it suits your style. Remember that perfume is a form of self-expression and your style is a way of communicating your personality to others.
